Workshop Description<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Reliable neuropathological and neuroimaging work-up of epilepsy-associated brain lesions represents an important diagnostic value for the successful management of patients with focal epilepsy. The international classification of epilepsies recognizes a large spectrum of substrates as potential predictors of disease progression and treatment response. The 10th <\/i><\/b>International Summer School for Neuropathology and <\/i><\/b>Neuroimaging in Epilepsy <\/i><\/b>was specifically designed to address the issue and to enable participants to better recognize and classify various brain lesions. For the first time, we will offer an integrated approach to combine neuropathology and neuroimaging skills and knowledge. The workshop has been held previously in Germany, Brazil, USA and China with a focus on histopathology and the endorsement of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE). Advanced hands-on histopathology training will still be offered in small groups led by distinguished tutors but also includes hands-on skills on reformatting brain MR images. We will offer our participants use cases to further develop their skills and help integrating knowledge of histology and imaging related to the diagnosis and treatment of human focal epilepsies.<\/p>\n

Learning Objectives of the ILAE curriculum<\/strong><\/h2>\n

1.1.\u00a0 Demonstrate working knowledge of etiologies for focal and generalized epilepsies in children and adults (Level 1-3)<\/p>\n

1.2\u00a0 Identify and describe seizure semiology using standardized ILAE terminology and classification systems (Level 1-2)<\/p>\n

1.5 Accurately order and interpret neuroimaging as it pertains to epilepsy (Level 1-3)<\/p>\n
