BRAINN Scientific Events (2017 – 2019)


  • Workshops “How the brain works” and “Exercise Your Brain” (2016/2017) – These workshops introduced the concept of neuroplasticity and the importance of exercising through cognitive training and physical activity, the importance of the music to the brain, seeking benefits like a good memory and great life quality. These workshops were developed by some of young BRAINN researchers. These activities were presented at the Science & Arts Program of UNICAMP as follows: Winter Break – July 2016 – 120 students, Age group: 12 to 13 year old children. Summer Break – February 2017 –140 students, Age Group: 14 to 15 year old children.
  • I Forum “Epilepsy at School”– (September 12th, 2016)The aim of this forum was to open the dialogue with educational professionals interested in finding a model to promote the inclusion of people with epilepsy and other mental disorders (autism, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder). As a result of this forum, in partnership with NGO Aspe (Association for Healthcare Assistance of Epilepsy Patients), we have been developing this project in public schools of East Regional Office – Education Department – Campinas/SP. We have been mapping the needs and difficulties of some schools so that we can offer specific training sessions. The aim of this project is to promote social inclusion of people with epilepsy and other mental disorders. Number of participants: 70 Primary Teachers and School Principals.
  • X Technical Stroke Seminar& I Workshop on Services of Stroke Care Centers of the State of Sao Paulo– October 24th to October 25th,)The main topics discussed at this seminar were the best treatments available, use of virtual reality for motor rehabilitation and post-stroke rehabilitation. The purpose of the workshop was to know the strengths and weaknesses of the Stroke Care Centers of the state of São Paulo. The participants could exchange experiences and know more about the best practices of each Stroke Care Center. One of the speakers of this seminar was Dr. Linamara Rizzo Battistella, Sao Paulo State Secretary for the Rights of the Person with Disability, Sao Paulo State Government. Number of participants: 40 healthcare professionals.
  • Stroke on the Lake – 3rd Edition (October 29th) – To mark the World Day and raise awareness about stroke, about 250 people were informed about the risk factors for stroke and how to avoid it. Visitors were also informed about the signs and symptoms of this disease in newborn babies and children. Stroke is the leading cause of death in Brazil and the leading cause of adult disability in the world. Partnership/Sponsorship: Boehringer Ingelheim, NGO ASPE, Education Center for Occupational Health (CETS), the Rehabilitation Center (CRR), he Pediatric Stroke Group (Unicamp), School of Nursing and Nutrition (UNIP – Universidade Paulista) and the Health Department of Campinas
  • III BRAINN Workshop (April 12th, 2017)The aim of this workshop was to promote discussions and strengthen the interaction among BRAINN researchers. Researchers were divided into multidisciplinary groups to discuss about the strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities related to the projects and subprojects of the research center. Task forces were created to work continuously to develop improvements in several areas such as Private Partnerships, Website, Technical Seminars and Extension Activities.   • Lectures about Epilepsy at Chopp com Ciência (March 28th, 2017) and Curiosities about Human Brain at Pint of Science Campinas (May 17th, 2017) were given by Dr. Li Li Min.
  • Implementation Science Research Training School – ESPCA-GACD – (November 6th to 10th, 2018, Campinas) Education and Dissemination area offered administrative support to the participants and lecturers before and during the event. It was a 5-day implementation science school. This school was facilitated by some of the field’s most prominent global experts in implementation science.   • I Neuroscience Workshop (February 2019) – This workshop was developed in partnership with COTUCA (Technical High School of Campinas, maintained by University of Campinas) to prepare students interested in participating in the Neuroscience Games.
