The scientific journal Genetics and Molecular Biology (formerly ‘Brazilian Journal of Genetics’) has been published since 1998 by the Brazilian Society of Genetics. In 2015, its impact factor was 1,341.

The review study ‘The New World of RNAs’, co-written by BRAINN researcher Iscia Lopes-Cendes, is the fifth most cited paper over the last five years published on Genetics and Molecular Biology, according to statistics from Web of Science.

The 2014 study highlights the recent discoveries about two kinds of non-coding RNAs: the microRNAs and the small interfering RNAs (siRNAs). The article offers a comprehensive overview over these topics, discussing the biogenesis, functions and potential therapeutic uses of these RNAs in a number of human diseases, either as biomarkers or as regulators of the expression of specific genes.

CEPID BRAINN congratulates Dra. Iscia Lopes-Cendes for this important – and impactful – metric!
